Gross anatomy. Explants from the posterior vaginal wall (a) and the abdomen (b) with induration and folding visible in the below placed selections. The dark area (arrows) below the vaginal epithelium and above the abdominal muscles is the location of the implant, which looks complete. In these cases, the material was hard on palpation and surrounded with excessive amount of connective tissue. Histology showed variable host response (c–e), gradual degradation of ACM with mineral precipitation or calcification (asterisk; c) and FBGC (arrow) on the graft–tissue interface (d), or complete ACM degradation where just sutures (S) were identifiable (e).
